Ranch Trip!

This ranch trip was all about getting wood. Pa & Ma are meeting us here in a few weeks (on their way down from Minnesota), and with no wood, the nights would have been cold. I was going to just go up myself and spend some quality time with my chainsaw, but it turned into a trip with Megan and Jesse (Church girl). The trip was short, way too short, but really fun.

These two ridiculous girls started Thursday night like this, but the reading didn't last long. I went to sleep right after I tool this picture, but they stayed up half the night (or so they told me) with their girly natter.

This little fellow found his way into the Quonset.

This was how I was hoping to spend my weekend, chainsawing wood. If you look closely, you'll see that the amount of wood that I have is really miniscule. I was having problems with my chainsaw (chain kept coming off), and the going was really slow. I ended up driving into town and buying a whole pickup full (and I mean full) of wood for $160, delivered. Now I am really broke until payday.

OK, now this was just a really bad idea. I let Jesse drive. I am amazingly fortunate to be alive.

This is also an astoundingly bad idea. Allowing Megan behind the wheel is easily as dumb as letting Jesse drive.

Jesse really likes shooting. It is her favorite thing at the ranch. Here she is with a .22.

As much as she like shooting rifles, she likes handguns better. This picture captures the recoil while she is shooting Boris, my 9mm Makrov (that is, my .380).

Megan shooting Pablo (my 9mm).

Here is Megan making her shoulder sore with General Sherman (my 30-06). She did well.

Jessie shooting Pablo.

This is a good picture. Jesse is struggling to contain the Pablo's recoil. See the shell casing flying through the air?

At Upper Carrizo Well. Kids always like climbing...

The cows on the cattle ramp!

The girls were trying to tip this over. They had all kinds of fun trying, but couldn't flip it. They kept asking for my help, but refused. I was having way too much fun watching them try. Finally I did help them flip it, but I intervened too soon for my tastes.

Climbing mountains.

Hey! This is me!
