Ranch Trip!

Yippee! Another ranch trip! We left Thursday after work, and pulled up to the cabin after dark. I was very tired and went to bed. The rest of the trip was more fun than the first night...

OK. So, I have a daughter who likes to take pictures as she travels up to the ranch. This is most inconvenient for the rest of us. I can only apologize and add that we went the "Payson" route, so the pictures you see are along that road.

That was a lot of pictures of the highway. Sheesh!

Here we have another, much more serious issue. This is my eldest daughter, who persists in her delusion that she is capable of driving. This state of affairs is not at all helped by her mother, who takes her out driving while happily snapping pictures to commerate the disaster. This time, things went from bad to worse. My dear wifey decided that my eldest should drive all the way to the pavement and back. This is an extrodinarily long journey, and had the two of them gone for at least an hour and a half. To make matters even worse, my (dear) wifey forgot her cell phone. This made me start to have visions of the minivan stuck somewhere, driven into one of the drainage ditches by my eldest, who can't really drive anyway. I had to get into my other car, and go on a fool's errand hunting them down, only to find the both of them, oblivious to all of the trouble they caused.

So here they are, all of those photos that my (dear) wifey snapped on her little escapade.

Messin' with the gate...

These are clouds. I would ask why this picture is here, but I'm afraid I already know the answer.

So here she is, at the pavement, as if this is some sort of accomplishment or something!

More clouds.

Finally, some pictures of a happier time. This is at "the canyon", one of Jacob's favorite places. This "canyon" is less then a quarter of a mile from the cabin, and has lots of interesting things in it.

Like this little "mini-cave".

Hey look! It's me!

Dogs. Tired dogs.

Button in a hole.

View of cabin from canyon.

Mudgy is defending her fort. This involved a dirt clump war, which eventually led to injuries, but not serious ones...

Nettie (a.k.a. (dear) wifey) on a walk. We did many walks this trip. Happy Nettie.

Cookin' hot dogs.

Um. This is the ranch (why is this here?)...

Monster!

Hm. Up-side-down. Clearly, someone doesn't know how to work the camera.

I spent all day Saturday at a CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) course in Springerville. Once I get the permit, I will be able to legally carry a concealed handgun. This target is my qualifying shooting test. I needed 7/10 in the shaded area to pass (I got 9/10).

The kids decided they wanted a new hole dug (to play in). Somehow, I got roped into digging for them. How do these things happen????

On Monday, the kids and I went for a hike. It was an extremely windy hike. This is in "Heidmann Wash".

This place is called "Boney Lake". Why anyone would call this (currently dried up) mud puddle a lake is beyond my comprehension.

Along the way is this old, ruined cabin.

With these initials carved into what is left of one of the walls.

We spent a bit of time in this wash, where there are several little "caves". Kids like little "caves".

Our last night at the ranch, we had some very serious wind. These next few pictures show just how much dust was getting kicked up.
