I
decided that the kids and I needed some time together, away from it
all, so I took them to the ranch. We ran around all weekend long, and
had a great time. We love the ranch! One of the first things we did was
go for a hike. We decided to hike up to Ron's place (free fresh
eggs!!!), following a non-direct route. This was taken in a wash
somewhere.

Ron
and Sherry are finally building a house. Sherry has never had a house
before in her life, so this is a big deal for them. I took these
pictures of the inside of the house, so that we'll be able to remember
what it looked like when it all started.

The
girls got to gather the eggs themselves. They loved it. I sent the
camera in with Roo, to capture the event. Had I not done this, my wife
would have likely yelled at me!

All the pretty chickens!

We roasted hot dogs (Meg calls them "Hot-Diggities"). They were yummy...

This
is the inside of a culvert. It is the culvert under the road between my
place and Jason's place. Jacob always likes to crawl through this thing.

This
is a picture of the new catchment just northeast of "Petroglyph
Mountain". See the water? They pile up dirt all aound a wash, and when
it rains it makes a pond (at for a little while). Then the cows have
something to drink.

|
I
know, I know. We already have billions and billions of pictures taken
from on top of "Petroglyph Mountain". Well, here are a few more.

Who is this guy?
|

Here
it is! The picture that you've all been waiting for! After much
patience on your part, I am glad to finally be able to announce that
you can now see two huge and horny locusts mating!

On the way back from "Petroglyph
Mountain", we met two of our neighbors, Dave and Lupe. They were out
hunting for arrowheads. They have a "gem screen", into which they dumpo
a shovel full of dirt at a time. The kids got into this, and ended up
picking through all manner of rocks and pebbles, in search of an
arrowhead. I think the kids actually found one...

Good
news for Jacob. Dave also gave Jacob this lariat (a.k.a. a lasso). He
loves it. This might cause problems later on (lassoing of sisters,
etc), but he'll have lots of fun with it! Note that this is a real
lariat, not just normal rope with a loop at the end (the rope is very
stiff).

Jacob managed to lasso a fence post.

OK.
These are really cool, and I've always been facinated by them. This is
a praying mantis. I found it on one of my trees, took a picture of it,
and them picked it up. These things are really fast. It ran up my arm
and almost made it inside of my shirt before I could catch it (that
would have given me the heebee-geebees).
