Ranch Trip!
11/14/2008 - 11/16/2008

For the longest time, I have been wanting to take a group of Church kids up to the ranch. I like to think that the ranch can be a blessing for more than just my family. I got roped both Jeff Winkler and Michelle Hanson (both from Church) to some up with us, and arranged for several kids to come. Then all the plans went haywire... All the kids, except Jessie, couldn ot make it, and Jeff Winkler's mom had to go into the hospital. I didn't want to back out on Jessie, so I brought my whole family, and Michelle too.

I had a great time up there (even if things didn't work out the way I planned), and I think the others did too. Both Jessie and Michelle got to shoot for the first time, and we went on two great hikes. I took lots of pictures too!

Just after arrival on Friday night. We didn't get in until about 9pm. It was cold too. Each night, it got down to 18 or 19 degrees.

We did manage to cook schmores the first night, even if it was late. I was too tired to remember much ;->!

Always it is fun to throw tumbleweeds into the fire.

These are the remains of the pumpkins that the kids carved during the halloween trip.

The Saturday morning hike was to Purcell Well and along the mighty Carrizo Wash.

Banging on the broken down windmill.

An old gear from the broken down windmill.

Posing with tumbleweeds.

I am fascinated by these. This is a section marker (this exact point is at the intersection of four section -- a section is a square mile of land), placed here by the department of interior. You can see the township, range, and section markings.

After the morning hike, we headed up to the shooting range to bust a few caps.

Jessie did really well on her first try with a pistol. Here she is next to her taget.

The afternoon hike was up a mountain (the one south of our place a ways). Halfway up the mountain is what we call "The Bald Spot", which is a really pretty meadow. In that meadow is this big rock.

This little "cave" can be climbed up all the way to the top.

Here is Jessie, about to climb out of the "cave".

On top of the mountain.

Last trip up (halloween), I found a live cow stuck in the mud. I called the rancher and told him just where the cow was located. I was disappointed to find this here when I hiked back this trip. Apparently, the rancher didn't even come out.

You can't see it, but there is a tarantula in here. It was captured by one of my neighbors.

Saturday night. We had hot-diggities.

Saturday night card game.

On the way home, we stopped at the bottom of the Salt River Canyon. We took these pics.
