June is the beginning of swimming season in Phoenix, and I'm afraid that the girls needed new swimming suits. Well, here is Roo, in all her glory, in her new suit.

This is the boy. I have no idea if that is his swimming suit that he is in, and I doubt that he knows either...

Moomsy in her new Mooms-suit.

Finally, here is Bip, in her new swimming suit.

Ranch Trip!
06/06/2008 - 06/09/2008
That's right, another trip to the ranch! On the way to the ranch, we were supposed to stop in Scottsdale for Nettie's doctor appointment, but we ran out of gas while looking for a place to fill up! I had to walk three miles (round trip) and Nettie missed her appointment! The gas guage was ABOVE E when I ran out (stupid guage). Good thing this up-scale golf course was here for us to park in while I chased about for gas. Speaking of gas, I spent $300 on gas for this little ranch excursion. With a big suburban and a trailer, its a good thing that gas so so cheap!

Parked at the golf course.

Since we were leaving from Scottsdale, we drove through Payson. Somewhere between Scottsdale and Payson, there was a brush fire. Ne--ie took these pictures as we drove by.

A dog. Not a very smart dog, but a dog none-the-less.

A little past Payson is a little town called Forest Lakes. Apparently, they were having an old car show up there. Ne--ie took this picture as we drove by.

My wife made the mistake of letting Meg use the camera. She took several very silly pictures, which follow.

The back of my head, by Meg.

We stopped in Snowflake for gas (did I mention that I had to spend $300 for gas this trip?). Across the highway from the gas station were a few buffalo. Cool, huh?

Hey! This is our new "double tub". I should have bought this a long time ago. It makes doing dishes much easier.

This is our wood pile. I am not sure why we have this picture. I can't imagine that anyone would want to look at it.

Trying to start a fire.

Jacob cought a bug. Imagine that.

I think this is Mudge (not to sure).

Now this I remember. I dug a hole in the ground, lit a fire in the hole, put a metle grate over the fire, and pit a pot of roast beef onto the grate. Then I covered up the hole with these boards, and left the meat in the hole to smoke for about six hours.

The meat is done! It was very yummy!

A monster.

The dogs get tired up at the ranch.

I'm trying to make a whip handle (literally, a handle for a whip) from a stick.

The girls asked me to make a swing. I tied a rope to a branch. You can't really swing on it (since other branches are in the way), but you can sit on the rope and pretend that you are swinging...

Lots of pictures of kids with whips follow...

Meg is making something. Not sure what...

We made schmores. I don't like schmores, but the kids do.

Nettie likes schmores too!

Checking a marshmellow.

Jacob must have been tired.

Stupid dog is licking all over me (and squashing me too).

On Sunday morning, the kids and I hiked up the large bluff to the south of our place (the one right by the railroad tracks -- you know the one). This is part way up.

A little less than half way up, there is a very pretty little meadow. In the meadow, there is a large boulder. In frot of the boulder, there were four silly kids...

In the meadow.

A ways up from the meadow, there are large rocks that kids (at least those with little sense) like to climb.

The top at last.

Hey look! A picture of me!

On the drive back from the hike, we stopped in the middle of the mighty Carrizo Wash (yippee).

Nettie shot her gun. Nettie is pretty good with her gun.

Thismight not look like much, but this is the first time that Mudge shot Little Sherman the right way (the first time she was big enough to hold it the right way).

Here is the target that Mudge shot up.

A close up, so that you can see that Mudge did pretty well on her first try.

We had corn on the cob one meal (yum). Meg had to shuck the corn.

A picture-o-the-ranch.

This is what we do with most of our garbage up at the ranch.

Hmm. A sideways picture of a dirty boy.

Another picture of kids playing with whips.

Big fire.

One the way home, we stopped at the bottom of the Salt River Canyon. I gave the kids strict instructions that they were not to let the dogs get in the water. Lets see how well that worked out for me.

Look. Not just the dogs are in the water, but so too are the kids!

Sigh. Wet kids, wet dogs.

Right. Roo had her hair cut. This is the new Roo...

This dog wandered into our yard. You can't tell it in this picture so much, but it really looked malnourished and in poor health. I made the mistake of giving it some food and water, and then it would not go away. The dumb thing hung around for several days before I finally called animal control. The kids begged me to keep it (and even named it "Sandy"), but I can't have three dogs...

Sandy gets a bath.

Roo's hair gone wild.

A sideways Meg, trying to be a pirate. They must have just watch some Pirates of the Carribean movie or something.

RANCH TRIP!
06/13/2008 - 06/15/2008
This time, I went up alone to attend the annual the annual meeting. The meeting was, like so many of the meeting I attend, pointless and wearing to the soul. However, the ranch was beutiful and green, and no supper did I eat alone (one supper was even filet mignon, which I was happy to rub into Megan's face). One of the things that I did this weekend was to bring up a brand new silver shelf. I took this picture of it so that my wife could see how it turned out. It really helps free up space in the quonset. Also, see that box on top of the bathroom? I built that shelf for it while I was up there, to free up more space yet.

This corner used to be so full of stuff that you could not get to the shelf. This is much better.

Another picture that I took for my wife. The old shelf got made into a bathroom shelf.

The big picture. My wife always says that no ranch trip happens without an adventure. This one was no exception. When I was pulling out of Fina on Saturday, I thought that one of my front tires seemed out of round. I checked them, but they were fine. The car seemed fine at higher speeds, so I ignored it. On the trip home on Sunday, Buzz was shaking even more than usual, rattling my teeth in my jaws. I finally figured it out in Payson. One of my rear tires had a split tread. I didn't want to drive home on a split tread, but I didn't want to drive home on a donut either. I decided to try for it on the split tread, and drove home slowly (55 stay alive!). I made it to the 202 before I had to get off of the freeway (at 44th St), since Buzz was shaking too badly at any freeway speed by then. I made it all the way to somewhere between Camelback and Bethany Home on Grand Ave before the tread finally seperated from the tire entirely, and I had to pull over and put on the donut. Thus endeth another fine Ranch Trip!

Game night at the Heidmann House (except that I think that Jeff was the only adult playing tonight). Good for him. Nice that someone around here can play games with the kids...

I really have no idea what this is...

This is a RooJupe.

A drawing by Roo.

Another drawing by Roo.

This one's by Mooms.

and Mooms,

and Mooms,

more Mooms,

and finally, a drawing by Mooms.

Jupe looks really wierd here.

This is my brand new (at least for me) 2002 Chevy Prizm. This is the newest car I've ever owned (relatively), and this is easily the most I've ever paid for a car ($4040 including all fees and taxes).

This picture is a bit out of sequence. This is why I bought the new car. The front end of Buzz fell all apart. I think my wife took this.

Adding oil. I think I can do this...

Who let that kid behind the wheel?

A picture by Roo.

A drawing by Mudge.

Mudge has been begging me to build something with wood. We decided to build a box out of Redwood. Nettie took several shots of this.

Roo's "action figure" on my perfectly good engine.

Building a box.

The finished product. I think it looks spiffy.

This year, General Dynamics hosted "Bring Your Mooms to Work Day". Not wanting to disappoint, I consented to bring the Mooms to work. GD gave her all sorts of neat stuff.

Making bread (I guess). Another fine project by Mudge. I think this might have been her first loaf (not sure about that).

Dress up day...

Nettie organized her pantry.
